Second Annual e-Train Technology Institute
RSVP
e-train Letter of May 28, 2002
Dear Present and Future Advocates,
You have been chosen to participate in an exciting grant initiative recently received by Western. Selection of this year’s cadre of e-train Technology Advocates has been based upon leadership, demonstrated interest in new and innovative movements in teaching and learning, and an appreciation of the benefits of the use of technology for you and your students. A limited number of people have been chosen as participants for this year … your selection places you in an exclusive and select group. Please read the enclosed information and seriously consider the benefits in becoming a part of our team.
The initiative is entitled “E-Train Express” and has six major goals:
- To ensure that all teachers who graduate from Western Kentucky University can use technology to increase student achievement;
- To ensure that all graduates can use technology to assess student learning;
- To ensure that all university faculty from both teacher education and the arts and sciences departments can model effective technology-assisted instruction for prospective teachers;
- To ensure that electronic portfolios are used as the primary means of gathering data used in the evaluation of teacher performance; and
- To set up an electronic clearinghouse that will give teachers and teacher educators throughout the country access to exemplary technology-assisted lesson plans and assessments:
(Note: See on-line resources at http://www.etrainexpress.com.)
The first year of this project has been extremely successful. Our goals and expectations for the coming year and activities from the current year may be found at our web site. Why say “yes”? You will get to be a part of what is very likely the most concentrated and coordinated effort yet to appear on Western’s campus to assist professors in developing and executing exemplary practices in using technology for teaching and learning. Your dean, provost, and president will recognize you for your participation in this initiative and your participation will be considered for merit salary increases and promotion. You will receive priority consideration for technology mini-grants that will allow you to design custom-fit technology applications for your courses and to purchase the hardware/software you need to be successful in implementation of your project. Your wants and needs will be considered as you work closely with the e-train technology team of trainers and advisors.
What do you need to do to get started? Just say, “yes.” Yes, I will attend the July 11th and 12th, 2002, Technology Institute. I will be treated exciting information about the use of technology in instruction, meals and interesting discourse with my colleagues. A highlight of the Institute will be a keynote presentation and workshops by Dr. Bernie Dodge, a speaker and nationally recognized innovator in the use of instructional technology. Yes, I will work with the grant committee and other trainers to set personal technology goals. Yes, I will participate in training sessions to achieve those goals and will share with my colleagues what I have achieved. Yes, I accept this challenge and this opportunity.
To RSVP and save your slot in etrain for the 2002-2003 year, please follow the links at the top of this page. Details about the institute will be posted on the e-train web site within the next few days. Please ask questions, share thoughts … and say “yes.” If you do not find the answers to your questions on the web site please use the contact information at the close of this letter to reach us. We believe we can accomplish great things this year. It will be all the greater if you are there with us. Thank you for your serious consideration in becoming a member of our team.
